Businesses are learning the secrets of success from world class athletes and their coaches at free, monthly networking events in Derby, organised by Derbyshire Institute of Sport.
Each month there is time for businesses to network over a hot drink and make new connections before hearing a talk by a DIS expert followed by a Q&A with an athlete.
Who should attend?
Many of the businesses that attend are already sponsors or supporters of DIS - a unique organisation that gives talented athletes the best chance of becoming world class and representing Team GB at world championships, the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games.
ALL businesses and sole traders are encouraged to attend if they would like to find out how THEY, or their clients, could benefit from an association with world-class athletes. Our sponsors have helped Derbyshire athletes book their place at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. New supporters can help MORE local athletes get to the 2024 and 2028 games.
This is a chance for people to get to know more about DIS and its athletes, and learn what they do and how they do it. For sponsors and supporters, it’s a chance to see how their money is truly making a difference to young people in Derbyshire.
Where do we find you?
When you drive through the main entrance on Kedleston Road, take the first right turn up a slope to Car Park 1. It is pay and display, but there is no charge to park in the evenings and no need to get a ticket.
Walk across the main drive from the car park and you will see the Sports Centre building ahead of you. Staff at reception will direct you to the meeting room.
What happens on the night?
There is some informal networking when you arrive and time to get a hot drink. You will then be asked to take a seat for a welcome to DIS and then a talk from our main speaker. In January 2020 it is dietitian and Registered Sport and Exercise Nutritionist Nicky Gilbert. She will be looking at whether there is a role for supplements as part of our healthy lifestyle. In the weeks after Christmas, many of us are looking to counteract some of the excesses of the festive season but what is the best approach? Nicky will be pleased to correct myths and answer any questions.
There will also be a Q&A with one of our athletes and a quick word from one of our sponsors.
Is there any charge to attend?
The Connect evenings are sponsored by Derby telecommunications company Invictus Communications, meaning that they are free to attend, but pre-booking through Eventbrite is essential.
* We will use the email address you give to book your ticket to send you information you may need about the event and to give you some information about opportunities to support or sponsor DIS.
