Mental wellness can feel like a minefield. Our event will outline key legal and practical processes needed in the work place

About this Event

Did you know mental health problems affect a quarter of our work force, that’s 1 in 4 people in any given year? We will all know someone who is suffering at this moment. The issues range from depression and anxiety to rarer issues such as bipolar disorder.

Over the last few years mental health has been thrust into the spotlight and organisations are changing their approach to mental health and how they manage and support employees. The aim of this event is to help organisations get a better understanding of mental health in the workplace.

Could you benefit from a deeper understanding of how to identify these issues and deal with mental health within your organisation? This event comes off the back of feedback from our clients wanting increased knowledge, awareness and support with mental health in the workplace. It will be insightful, thought provoking and will provide useful take away tips including information on employment law, company handbook content, company policies, and reasonable adjustments as well as clinical and medical facts and information on the NHS system - appointments and support, ways to provide practical support to the people within your organisation.

It aims to help you improve the lives of the most important asset to any business - your people - reducing absenteeism, improving retention and productivity as well as providing an attractive offering to new staff which is paramount in today's skill short market.

We at Cherry Professional are running this exciting breakfast event in partnership with Sanctum Healthcare and Clive Day (LLP) with guest speaker Matthew Turner (Matty).

Matty will open the event. He started his career at Nottingham Forest as a youngster. He earned promising reviews in the youth team at Forest, and West Bromwich Albion signed him in 2000. In 2004 Matty tore his Achilles and sadly it was a career ending injury. Realising he wouldn't play professionally again, Matty turned to the abuse of both drugs and gambling to try and “numb the pain” and this led to over 10 years of chronic addiction and depression. Just over 4 years ago Matty tried to commit suicide.

After seeking the RIGHT advice he eventually found the road to recovery. Matty now devotes his life to helping raise awareness and support individuals, athletes and professional sports people all over the UK who are coping with mental illness.

Part 1 of the session will help you as an employer understand and navigate the legal obligations needed when hiring and managing people who need support with mental health issues. This will be delivered by Clive Day, Head of Employment, Director and Solicitor at Fraser Brown. With 20 years experience and listed in the 2017 Legal 500 'go to person' for complex techincal issues, Clive is a leading name in the industry and specialises in Employment and Recruitment Law.

During part 2 of the seminar you will be given advice by Dr Raffi on how to provide a tailored holistic approach to supporting staff wellness in your organisation. Dr Raffi is the lead psychiatrist and founder of Sanctum Healthcare and is one of the highest regarded professionals in his field. He has worked for both public and private sector organisations and will provide practical solutions to enable your organisation to support employees with mental health issues.

There are limited places on this event so please book early to avoid disappointment. Please note - the seminar will be free of charge to our clients, however, we would like to ask for a discretionary amount of £10 each that will be donated to the charity 'Mind'.
