Cherry Professional is currently engaged on a retained assignment with a recently PE backed client. Wastecycle is one of the East Midlands leading Recycling and Resource Management companies collecting and processing in excess of 1/2 million tonnes of waste per year in the area and employing over 300 people. Based in Colwick, Nottingham, the company has ambitious growth plans and, as a result, is looking to recruit a progressive Finance Director.

Working closely with the Managing Director, you will build and manage an infrastructure that will support the business as it aims to double its profit in the next 3 years. You will support investment decisions into new technology and machinery, face off to key clients around contractual and pricing issues and commercially evaluate operational improvements to ensure maximum efficiency is achieved.

The company, in the recycling sector, have just completed their strategic plan which will see them double profit over the next 3 years. The Finance Director will play a pivotal part in helping the business achieve their goals and, as a result, we are looking for someone who enjoys working in an open minded culture, someone with the desire to challenge the status quo and drive business performance through great financial management.

All about the role…

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders within both the Senior Leadership and Management Teams
  • Play an active role as part of the Leadership Team in the development of long/short term vision, strategy and business plans
  • Effective management of the Finance and IT Functions, more than 15 staff through 3 Direct Reports
  • Analysis and presentation of financial implications of business activities, providing recommendations to enhance financial performance and business opportunities
  • Management of the budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting processes
  • Taking the lead in the Implementation of a new ERP system
  • Drive and focus to continually evaluate and improve processes, systems and controls across the business
  • Seek continuous improvement to all processes and operations by embracing new technology and improved machinery


Who they are looking for…
The ideal candidate for this Finance Director position will be both strategic and hands on in nature, and seeking a challenge role where they can genuinely influence the growth of the business. You will be fully qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)

  • You must be commercially astute and have the interpersonal and influencing skills required in order to operate at a strategic and operational level.
  • Experience of delivering growth within an SME business with an understanding of supporting business units will be important.
  • Experience of delivering commercial and financial analysis in order to aid strong decision making will be highly regarded.
  • Experience of the development of financial, administration and IT systems to support the growth of the organisation will also be beneficial.
  • Given the nature of this business, exposure to manufacturing environments, construction or engineering would be advantageous.
  • You will be comfortable leading a finance function, being hands on, autonomous and also influencing at senior levels.
