Finance and Commercial Director
Cherry Professional has been exclusively retained to recruit this exciting and pivotal position as Finance and Commercial Director for the Coal Authority.
This is a unique opportunity to join a successful Executive Leadership Team responsible for developing strategy and leading business transformation.
This is a highly influential position within the organisation reporting to the Chief Finance and Information Officer. As a qualified accountant you will provide strategic leadership to your Finance and Projects, Procurement, and Legal teams.
The successful candidate will support their peers promoting a commercially astute culture across the organisation as it drives towards its vision of being a world leader in resolving the impacts of mining.
It is an exciting time to join the Coal Authority as it pursues its ambitious strategy to innovate and expand its range of commercial products and services. The Coal Authority's mission is to protect the public and the environment in mining areas. It provides expert advice and creative solutions to governments, public bodies, private organisations and landowners to manage the public safety and environmental issues from coal and metal mining. As a non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, it manages the £2.8 billion long term coal mining legacy.
What will you be responsible for?
Financial Management and Reporting - Ensuring there is an effective and proportionate risk management and control environment in place and that management information is timely and provides commercial insight.
Business Planning and Projects - Ensuring strategic objectives are translated to detailed business plans and processes are robust so that the business can prioritise programmes and resource plan effectively to deliver its strategic objectives.
Commercial and Procurement - Ensuring commercial and contractual risk is properly managed and that the whole procurement lifecycle is managed to achieve best value.
Legal - Ensuring an efficient legal service is supplied to the organisation so that its regulatory and legal risks are effectively managed.
You will maintain strong relationships with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial strategy, negotiating settlements and forecasting and reporting as required. You will liaise with the Chair of the Audit Committee and other Board Members providing insight and demonstrating good governance.
What you will need:
Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/ACMA) able to demonstrate a high level of commercial acumen
Able to challenge and influence the Executive team, demonstrating strategic thought leadership at all times
A track record of leading, developing and mentoring teams, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and implementing change
Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels, which you will use to develop positive stakeholder relationships to promote the organisation and assist it to meet its objectives
